YSRCP Goes to the SEC With ‘Evidence’. Let the Truth Come Out
In every election, the losing side complains. That is old politics. But some complaints deserve a serious look, no matter who makes them.
On October 27, YSRCP MLC Lella Appireddy and former MLA TJR Sudhakar Babu went to the State Election Commissioner. They submitted audio and video material and alleged police intimidation, inducements and interference in the local body elections.
They played an audio clip which, they said, featured a DSP calling a YSRCP leader about candidate withdrawals. They also raised incidents in Anantapur, Nuzvid, Palnadu and Tadipatri, including nominations being obstructed or rejected.
Jagan Mohan Reddy also spoke to party cadres and said elections should be held on a level playing field with equal opportunity for all parties.
What the ruling side says
The NDA leaders have hit back hard. Chandrababu Naidu pointed out that YSRCP filed 62 court petitions to stall the local polls. He said Jagan has a “hit-and-run” style of politics. Pawan Kalyan warned the opposition against violence.
So we have two stories. Completely opposite.
Why I want a proper probe
I am not here to say YSRCP is right. I am not here to say it is wrong either.
But here is my point. If there is an audio clip of a police officer talking about withdrawals, it should be verified. Is it real? Is it edited? Who is speaking? What exactly was said?
This is not about YSRCP. It is about the police. The police uniform belongs to the people of Andhra Pradesh, not to any party. If even one officer misused it, action is needed. If the clip is fake, then those who made it should face action too.
Either way, the truth helps democracy.
The memory of the past
Let us also be honest. When YSRCP was in power, TDP and Jana Sena made very similar complaints. They also said police were working for the ruling party. Many local body seats then also went uncontested.
So this is a sickness in our state’s politics, not one party’s crime. Whoever is in power, the police start looking in one direction. That must stop.
What the SEC should do
The State Election Commission has a big responsibility now. It should:
- Examine the material quickly and openly.
- Tell the public what it finds.
- Ensure the remaining polls have neutral observers.
Speed matters. Justice after the election is like medicine after death.
My feeling
I love Andhra Pradesh. I want our elections to be an example for India, not a joke. A strong government does not need police help to win. A weak opposition does not become strong by only complaining.
Let both sides fight hard, but fight clean.
